Let's Celebrate and Advocate! 💙Hey there, friends, family, diabetes warriors and advocates! Today is World Diabetes Day and we come together to shed light on the journey, triumphs, and challenges of living with diabetes. Did you know this worldwide celebration began in 1991 as a response to the growing concerns about the complications associated with diabetes? It's a day to unite, educate, and raise our collective voice against the escalating health threat posed by this condition and to bring awareness of the reality that everyone does not have access to insulin. "Insulin does not belong to me, it belongs to the world."November 14 holds special significance to me because, its the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting. Who is the co-discoverer of insulin along with Charles Best in 1922. This transformative discovery has been a beacon of hope, saving countless lives and changing the landscape of diabetes management. Without this discovery, I would have not survived 40 years with Diabetes. I'm fortunate to be able to have insulin, however there are many living with diabetes, who do not have acesse or the finances for this precious substance, insulin. Banting is famously known for saying, "Insulin does not belong to me, it belongs to the world." Today, we honor this milestone and express gratitude for the progress made in diabetes care. Spreading Love and Awareness 💙Let's use this day to not only commemorate historical achievements but also to spread love and awareness. Diabetes touches the lives of millions, and it's essential to offer support, understanding, and encouragement to everyone affected. By coming together, we can break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and foster a community of empathy and acceptance. Supporting the Sonia Nabeta Foundation (SNF)As mentioned in my previous blog (www.alexismnewman.com/blog#/) I'm shinning a spotlight on SNF. Please join me in making a difference in the lives of children living with T1D in Africa.. Your support can provide financial assistance, education, and the advocacy needed to ensure they thrive despite the challenges of living with diabetes.
Let's stand together, raise awareness, and make a positive impact on the lives of those living with Type 1 diabetes. Cheers to more discoveries, less stigma, and a brighter future for the diabetes community!
